Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate veterinary assistant to join our animal care team. As a veterinary assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional care to our patients and support to our veterinary staff. Your primary responsibilities will involve assisting with various medical procedures, ensuring the well-being of animals, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and providing excellent customer services to our clients. We are looking for a full-time employee willing to work four 10-hour shifts with a flexible schedule that could include weekends and some holidays. Compensation will be based on experience and skill set.
Responsibilities:
Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in medical procedures, examinations, and surgeries.
Handle and restrain animal safely and compassionately during treatments and examinations.
Administer medications as directed by the veterinarians.
Prepare and maintain examination rooms and surgical suites.
Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments to maintain a hygienic environment.
Monitor and record vital signs and patient information accurately.
Perform routine laboratory tests and sample collections as needed.
Maintain and update patients records with accuracy and attention to detail.
Provide post-operative care and monitor patients during their recovery.
Assist with animal husbandry, including feeding, walking, and grooming.
Interact with clients, providing them with a positive experience and addressing their inquiries.
Assist with client education on pet care and medical treatments.
Participate in regular training and educational opportunities to stay updated on best practices and advancements in veterinary care.
Work collaboratively with the veterinary team to ensure smooth clinic operations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Veterinary Assistant Certification is preferred but not required.
Previous experience working in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or related field is a plus.
Strong passion for animals and their well-being.
Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
Physical stamina to handle the demands of the job, including standing for extended periods of time and lifting heavy animals.
Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
